EDF EN Canada achieves a milestone
24 January 2010
EDF EN Canada has confirmed that it has reached commercial operation and closed financing for the Arnprior Solar Project. The 23.4 MWdc solar PV site is located on the western side of the City of Ottawa, Ontario.
The Canadian subsidiary of EDF Energies Nouvelles had started the construction work for this project in June last year. This ground mount solar plant consists of more than 300,000 thin-film solar panels, provided by manufacturer First Solar. Last year, it was shared that the project is the largest solar PV site in Canada, and will more than double grid-connected solar PV capacity in the country.
EDF EN Canada has invested more than CDN $100 million in the project as part of the Province’s Renewable Energy Standard Offer Programme (RESOP).
The project is being developed as two installations under the Government of Ontario’s Standard Offer Programme, which encourages renewable energy production to help replace coal-fired generation. The electricity produced will provide local electricity service via connections to the Hydro One distribution grid.
EDF EN entered the Canadian market in 2008 and it draws on the leadership of enXco, EDF EN’s American affiliate
