Signet Solar, BSC-Solar plan 1.8MW solar farm
28 October 2009
Menlo Park, California-based Signet Solar and project developer BSC-Solar are to jointly develop a 1.8 MW solar power plant in the Czech Republic, located in the Blížkovice region, South Moravia near the Austrian border.
The installation of the solar farm is to commence by the end of this month.
Signet Solar will supply single junction silicon thin film solar photovoltaic modules for the entire project. BSC-Solar will construct the solar photovoltaic farm on five hectares of land using an estimated 20,000 single junction silicon thin film modules.
The solar farm will be completed and connected to the grid by the end of the year.
Signet Solar indicated that this project underlines the growing acceptance of its thin film photovoltaic modules in the European market. The company’s R&D centre in Germany is developing and implementing proprietary process enhancements related with device architectures, new materials and manufacturing methods. The company believes these innovations, combined with high volume, large area manufacturing will deliver an industry leading module manufacturing cost structure.
The company has also recently introduced its 400W power class module using single junction thin film silicon technology. Signet started volume production of these TUV certified large area thin film modules in October 2008 by implementing its proprietary technology on commercially available equipment.
